How to Perform CPR on a Choking Victim

Technical Description

Abstract

Choking can happen to anyone at any point in time, so this technical description aims to teach and inform many readers on how to perform and teach the basics of CPR.  Everyone is capable of learning how to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation, regardless of training or age.  The directions are simple enough that those as young as Pre-K children are being introduced to CPR classes worldwide.  It is important to know that it only takes 10 minutes for a person to become brain-dead, but anyone with even the smallest bit of knowledge regarding CPR can extend the victim’s time until professional help arrives.  The levels to knowledge as described by the American Heart Association are categorized as untrained, trained but rusty, and trained and ready to go.  We provide an example of what to do in a common choking situation regardless of training so as to better prepare those to focus when in that kind of crisis.
